He was predeceased by: his wife Mary Joyce Whitten; and his parents, Thomas "Daddy Burris" Whitten and Kate "Mama Kate" Whitten. He is survived by: his children, Denise Sapp (Freddy) of Start, LA, Todd Whitten, Romey Maloy of St. Augustine, FL and Connie Skains (Mickey) of Start, LA; his grandsons, Landon Sapp (Andrea) of Monroe, LA and Cody Allen Skains (Sharmaine Bayudan) of Garland, TX; and his great grandchild Jacob Sapp of Monroe, LA. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
