He was predeceased by: his parents, Allen Long and Emma Lou Dubois Powell (Gene); his grandparents, Lonnie, Jessie Dubois and Erving; his son-in-law Jason Garon; and his cousin Butch Long.

He is survived by: his wife Teresa Tucker Long; and his children, Joseph Strother III (Karen), Steven Strother (Kim), Jessica Thiels (Brett), Angela Garon and Brittany Deere (Joshua). He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild.
