He was predeceased by: his father Walter Reliford; his siblings, Jessie James Simpson, Dianne Chappel and Peggy Dillard; and his granddaughter Lakesha Johnson.

He is survived by: his mother Pearlie Mae Simpson; his wife Joyce Anderson; his children, Pearlola Anderson, LaShunda Primus (Rodrick), Romona Bryant and Adgie Johnson (Ida); and his siblings, Willie Simpson, Jr. (Wanda), Lee Simpson (Sharon) and Edna L. Shyne. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
