It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Bernard James Mathias of Shreveport, Louisiana, born in Toledo, Ohio, who passed away on November 17, 2024, at the age of 79, leaving to mourn family and friends. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Mathias and Joan Mathias; his wife Maria Mathias; his siblings, Mike Mathias and Jane Pizzigno; and his nephew Jim Johnson.
He is survived by: his close friend Claudia Pearce; his children, Christopher Spear (Shalawn) and Torri Wilson (Jason); his sisters, Mary Ann Johnson (A. D.), Jean Keeton, Linda Bishop, Pat Mathias, Becky Bass and Cathy Ellsaesser (Charlie); his siblings-in-law, Jeannie Mathias, William Williams (Sandra), Harold Williams (Marcy) and Eddie Sikes (Carol); his grandchildren, Megan (Trevor), Olivia, Chad, Kaleb, Tyler, Ciara (Noah) and Greenleigh; and his great grandchildren, Merek and Jonathan.
Visitation was held on Sunday, November 24th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Rose Neath Funeral Home - Shreveport Marshall (1815 Marshall St, Shreveport, LA 71101). A celebration of life was held on Sunday, November 24th 2024 from 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM at the Elks Lodge #122 (310 E Preston Ave, Shreveport, LA 71105).
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to the Richard and Joan Mathias Scholarship Fund at the Cathedral School of St. John Berchmans, 947 Jordan St., Shreveport, LA 71101, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Loyola College Prep, 921 Jordan St., Shreveport, LA 71101.
