He was predeceased by: his parents, Maurice Melancon and Jan Melancon; and his daughter Dawn Giroir. He is survived by: his close friend Christine Gauthier of Port Barre; his children, P. J. Melancon, Sr. (Angel) of New Iberia, Chase Melancon of Opelousas and Becky Dukes (Richard Lambert) of Opelousas; his siblings, Jules Melancon of Baton Rouge, Larry Melancon of New Iberia, Melba Decoux of New Iberia, Geraldine Guidry of St. Martinville and Florine Izquierdo of Breaux Bridge; his grandchildren, Angel McWilliams, Pierre Melancon, Jr., McKenzie Dukes, Katlyn Dukes and Justice Dukes; and his great grandchildren, Izlyn Melancon, Brookes McWilliams and Emeri Melancon. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
