He was predeceased by: his daughter Toni Melerine; his parents, Anthony Melerine and Leona Campo Melerine; and his siblings, Landry Melerine, Carroll "Lutchey" Melerine, Clinton "Buddy" Melerine, Morris Melerine and Lorraine M. Perez.
He is survived by: his children, Stephanie Nunez (Dwayne), Rachel Sanders (Darrell), Rene Richard and Zachary Ledet; and his brother Jerry Melerine. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
