He was predeceased by: his grandson Dillon Simmons; his parents, Emile Champagne and Ernestine Champagne; and his siblings, Wilamenia Tassin and Herbert Champagne Sr..

He is survived by: his wife Mary S. Champagne; his children, John L. Champagne Jr., Jodi Stevens (Ronnie) and Jeanne Simmons (Warren III); his grandsons, John L. Champagne III, Jake Stevens, Warren Simmons IV and Justin Simmons; and his great grandchildren, Hunter Champagne and Ella Champagne.
