He was predeceased by: his parents, X. V. Hales and Margarette Hales; his former wife Candace G. Hales; and his sisters, Joyce Spillers (Charles D. Spillers) and Betty Hales.
He is survived by: his wife Ruth P. Hales; his son Jamie Hales (Kenan P. Edwards); his siblings, L. C. Hales (Clarice) and Karen Baird (Everett); his granddaughter Samantha Hales; and also, Sharon, Johnny Eubanks and Prieto. He is also survived by family members; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
