He was predeceased by: his son Rev. Keith N. Matthews; his daughter-in-law Evang; his parents, Deo Matthews, Sr. and Daisy Matthews; and his siblings, Della Francis, Flavella Howard, Agnes Robertson, Loretta Wakefield, Louella Atkins, Mable Marks, Thelma Breedlove, Alberta Bernard, Dayo Matthews, Jr., Lloyd Matthews, Elijah Matthews, Howard Matthews and Wallace Matthews.
He is survived by: his significant other Helen Theresa Rubit of Rayne, LA.; his children, Mark Anthony "Tony" Matthews and Michelle Matthews Calloway; his grandchildren, Kedra L. Matthews, Charles Cory Williams and Kristopher Ian Matthews; and his goddaughter Hortense "Tenny" Gordon. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, and cousins.
