He was predeceased by: his wife Judy Atkinson; his parents, Andrew Atkinson and Mazie Atkinson; and his siblings, Nettie Brashear, Evelyn Ficklin, Alice Kent, Millie Spruill, Walter, Tommy, Harry and Alvin Atkinson.
He is survived by: his children, Dana Truett (Billy), Darrell Atkinson (Sheila) and Gary Atkinson; his siblings, Helen "Doodie" Dawson (Ronnie), Margerite "Blondie" Brown, Sarah Hill and Larry Atkinson (Nell); his grandchildren, Kayla Atkinson, DJ Atkinson (Katie Atkinson), Caitlyn Avara (Stephen Avara), Hunter Atkinson, Cameryn Atkinson, Chely Atkinson, Brenna Truett and Aaron Truett; his great grandchildren, Brady Carpenter (Jillian Carpenter), Tyler Smiley, Londyn Smiley, Carson Smiley, Cole Atkinson, Jack Atkinson, Anna Claire Atkinson, Kelslynn Atkinson and Clay Avara; and his great great grandchildren, Myles and Camille Carpenter.
