He was predeceased by: his parents, Sylvester Dewey Ballard and Evon McKnight Ballard; and his sister Hilda Ballard Herbert (James). He is survived by: his wife Patricia Ponthier; his children, Jamie Seghers (Walter), Mary Aymond, Dori Aymond and Ashley Aymond; his brother Malcolm "Buddy" Ballard (Grace); and his grandchildren, Darien Seghers and Maya Maizie Aymond. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to cure JM or the ALS Association.
