He was predeceased by: his wife Phyllis Mignon Dansby Edney; his parents, Lucy Edney and Roosevelt Edney; his siblings, Beulah Edney Passmore and Harold Edney of Virginia; his son-in-law Clinton Dewayne Smith; and his niece Deborah Edwards.

He is survived by: his daughter Sabrina Edney Smith; his grandchildren, Serena Mignon Smith, Michael Dewayne Smith and Nathan Danial Smith; his stepgrandson Zack Thacker; and his siblings, Raymond Edney of North Carolina and Geraldine Weeks of Florida.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations towards funeral expenses be made in his honor (Campaign for Carl Daniel Edney: In Lieu Of Flowers (ilof.com)).
