He was predeceased by: his parents, Birley Barnes and Irene Jones Barnes; his in-laws, Joseph Fontenot and Verlie Eliser Fontenot; his brothers, B. A. Barnes and Frank "Glen" Barnes; his nephew Gene Barnes; his granddaughters, Addisyn and Brynlee; and his pet Maggie.

He is survived by: his wife Diane Barnes; his children, Cheri Barnes Basford (Rob) and Christopher "Brandon" Barnes (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Aubree and Brooks; his sister-in-law Marsha Barnes; his nephews, Bill Barnes (Rosamond), Frank Barnes (Vickie) and Dean Barnes (Rhonda); and his niece Misty Barnes. He is also survived by numerous cousins, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
