He was predeceased by: his parents, Billy Wells and Mildred Wells; his grandson Shelby Stafford; and his siblings, Jeanne McLin and Marvin Wells.
He is survived by: his wife Joan Hoover Wells; his children, Merlyn 'Lyn' Jr. (Mary), Billy D. Wells (Christine), Sheryl Stafford (Sammy), Terry Jo Cutrer (Wade) and Christy Wells; his grandchildren, Keri Lyn Persaud, Benjamin Myles Wells, Amber Effler, Kaci Freeman, Lauren, Rachel, Bryce and Heidi Wells; his great grandchildren, Peyton, Vivienne, Lochlan Persaud, Brayden, Liuzza, Amerie Freeman and Abigail Effler; and his siblings, Wayne Wells and Edith Rourke.
