He was predeceased by: his wife Johanna Hess (Mizell); and his parents, John Henry and Mary Amelia Hess (Mixon). He is survived by: his children, Stephen Montgomery Hess of Ponchatoula and Lena Thanette Hunsberger (Hess); his grandchildren, Nicole Harris (Shane), Ashley Sheese (Derek), Scott Hess, Shanna Lambert and Cole Lambert; and his sister Betty Beverson of Pride.

In lieu of ﬂowers, the family is requesting memorials or donations to be made to the Richard Murphy Hospice House; 1109 S. Chestnut St, in Hammond or the FUMC of Hammond.
