He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Freeman and Ruby Dupree Freeman; his wife Gayle Freeman; his son Joseph Freeman; and his siblings, Carl Freeman, Jimmie Freeman, Steve Freeman, Callie "Liz" Carter and Nola Foster.

He is survived by: his children, Lisa Cogar (Joe), Laura Green (Glen), Prentiss "Bubba" Freeman, Jr. (Monica) and Paul Freeman; his siblings, Gary Freeman, Richard Freeman (Sharon) and Lavone Meadows; his grandchildren, Josh Cogar, Kyle Cogar, Jonathon Cogar, Mary Freeman, Brittany Freeman and Chris Freeman; and his great grandchildren, Kirsten Freeman and William Cogar. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
