He was predeceased by: his wife Mary Marroy Chappell; his parents, Eula and Buford Chappell, Sr.; his siblings, Buford Jr., Jesse, Bartley Chappell, Mildred Rigdon and Norma Lloyd; and his parents-in-law, Bessie Giroir (Herbert), Mildred Rivere (Ernest), Nora Mae Theriot (O'Neil), Allie Jeansonne (Howard), Beatrice Giroir (Luke Sr.), Kenneth Marroy (Lorraine) and Sidney Hue.

He is survived by: his siblings, Douglas, Curtis, Jack Chappell, Lorene Burgess, Patricia Billiot and Jean Hayes; his sister-in-law Therese Hue; and his uncle Charlie. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
