He was predeceased by: his wife Emma Ruth Cox Estay; his daughters, Cynthia Estay and Gail Champion; his parents, Percy Estay and Verlie Dufrene Estay; and his siblings, Calvin Estay, Alvin Estay, Percy Estay Jr., Dudley Estay, Mary Louise Lancaster, Gertrude Estay and Ella Pellerin.
He is survived by: his children, James A. Estay, Jr. (Denise), Bobbi Estay Schexnayder (Richard), Belinda Estay Chatman (Darwin) and Wendy Estay Abate (Mark); his son-in-law Glen Champion; his grandchildren, Cody Champion, Adrian Schexnayder, Troy Champion, James, Brittany Estay Banks (Joseph), Percy Estay, Blair Schexnayder and Darwin "D. J."; and his brother Buddy Graver.
