He was predeceased by: his parents, Arline Gibbs Carter and Saul Carter, Sr.; his brothers, Saul Carter, Jr., Walter Carter, Sr. and Frank Carter; his granddaughter Christina Carter; and his great grandchild Adalyn Faith Burdis.
He is survived by: his wife Modester Davis Carter; his children, Nathaniel Carter, II, Christopher Carter, Sr., Angela Carter, Antoinette Carter and Michelle Carter Simmons (William); and his grandchildren, Christopher Carter, Jr., Raven Carter and Cason Carter. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
