He was predeceased by: his brother Miles John Thornton; his grandparents, Nellie, Meredith Herman, Charles and Margaret Thornton; and his brother-in-law Michael Blanchard.

He is survived by: his parents, Bernard John Thornton and Nola Jean Thornton; his son Evan John Thornton; his siblings, Jeffrey Scott Thornton (Jana) and Rinea Blanchard; his nephews, Zack Blanchard and Jorma Thornton; and his niece Tara Blanchard.
