With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Richard Lavergne of Opelousas, Louisiana, who passed away on January 5, 2025 at the age of 79. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Jerry Lavergne and Madelin Metrejean; and his sons, Paul Polowski and Jeff Martin. He is survived by: his wife Ruby Diaz Lavergne of Ponchatoula; his daughter Sherri McAfee of Hamilton, OH; his stepdaughters, Brenda Chappetta (Timothy) of Ponchatoula, Linda Maggio of Ponchatoula and Charolette Sanchez (Cory) of Walker; his grandchildren, Shayna Martin, Christopher Carriere, Blake Carriere, Emily Carriere, Bailey McAfee and Mackenzie McAfee; his stepgrandchildren, Lilith Lagrange, Joshua "Deuce" Lagrange and Rielynn Melancon; and his siblings, Dale Lavergne (Betty) of Opelousas, Gerrydean Perry of Opelousas and Wendy Smith of Opelousas. He is also survived by his family, friends.
Visitation was held on Thursday, January 9th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Melancon Funeral Home (4708 I-49 Frontage Rd, Opelousas, LA 70570). A funeral service was held on Thursday, January 9th 2025 at 4:00 PM at the same location.
