He was predeceased by: his parents, Adam Ivy Valin and Rita St. Cyr of Virginia; and his siblings, Carl Louis Valin and Rita Mae Watkins. He is survived by: his wife Anna Lee Chapman Valin of Opelousas; his children, Steven Keith Valin (Jeannie) of New Caney, TX, Phillip Clay Valin of Erwinville and Joan Lynette Broussard (Ricky) of Erwinville; his grandchildren, Joshua, Noah Valin, Jason Seymour, Ashley Montagnino and Brady Valin; his great grandchildren, Layla, Saydee Valin, Nicholas, Jonah, Louie Montagnino and Brandtly Valin; and his siblings, Henry Adam "Pistol" Valin (Gail) of Opelousas, William Keith Valin of Lafayette, Gwendolyn Ann "Moonie" Chachere of Opelousas and Audrey Faye Dupre (Wayne) of Opelousas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in the name of Merlin Valin be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
