He was predeceased by: his wife Maudrey Jones Chavis; his parents, Leslie Chavis and Millie Singleton Chavis; and his sisters, Rose Henry, Mary Bell Jordan and Velma Beverly.
He is survived by: his children, John Gary Chavis (Kim) of Lake Charles, LA, Darrell Chavis of Opelousas, LA, Gerold Chavis (Shenequa) of Lafayette, LA and Marlena Cane (Christopher) of Opelousas, LA; and his siblings, Steve Beverly of Opelousas, LA, Patricia Pefferkorn (George) of Opelousas, LA and Linda Scott (Eddie) of Baton Rouge, LA. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
