He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin Fontenot and Gertrude Fontenot; his daughter Cheryl Patterson; his grandson Lonnie Joe Patterson, Jr.; and his brother Vernon Fontenot.
He is survived by: his daughters, Dienitha Fontenot of Kyle, TX and Lavell Fournier of Opelousas, LA; his siblings, Willie Fontenot of Washington, LA, Henry Fontenot (Lucy) of Dayton, OH, Vurley Fontenot (Mary) of Columbus, OH, Leroy Fontenot of Opelousas, LA, Lucille Fontenot of Opelousas, LA and Nora Fontenot of Dayton, OH; his grandchildren, Christopher Fournier, Jr. and Aundrell Patterson; his aunt Evelyn Sam Freeman; and his niece Carol Fontenot. He is also survived by other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
