He was predeceased by: his wife Joyce Elizabeth McDowell; his parents, Gurvase Vernon McDowell and Jewell McDowell; and his brothers, John F. McDowell and James McDowell.
He is survived by: his daughters, Kristal Young of Whitesboro, Texas and Amy LaRavia of Oak Grove, Louisiana; his grandchildren, Ethan Young of Whitesboro, Brent Young of Bonifay, Sarah Strong (Bryan) of Oak Grove and Ben LaRavia of Oak Grove, Louisiana; his great grandchild John Michael Strong of Oak Grove, Louisiana; and his sisters, Claudene Stephens of Oak Grove and Joan Priddy of Vicksburg, Mississippi. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
