He was predeceased by: his wife Cynthia Marie Bell-Matthews; his parents, Deacon Simon, Sr. and Ellen Matthews; and his brothers, Jerome, Larry, Simon, Jr. and Tom Matthews.
He is survived by: his child Teelye T. Matthews; his grandchildren, Damian Matthews, Da'Mia and Ta'Lia Severan; and his siblings, Curtis, Burnadean Matthews (Brainell) and Bernadette McLeod. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, February 14th 2025 at 9:00 AM at the Progressive Baptist Church (1214 S Robertson St, New Orleans, LA 70113). A funeral service was held on Friday, February 14th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
