He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Abernathy and Thelma Abernathy. He is survived by: his wife Kathleen Cullen Abernathy; and his children, Stephen Jr. (Jen), Aimee and Robert (Lenna).
His final gift was an organ and tissue donation, facilitated by the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency.
