He was predeceased by: his father Robert, Sr.. He is survived by: his wife Deborah Nebel Fortenberry; his mother Gloria Fortenberry; his sisters, Patricia Geldbach (Larry) and Cheryl Fortenberry (Jeff); and his children, Nicholas Fortenberry (Casey), Jordan Wheeler (Michael), Jason Fortenberry, Sean Temple (Leah), Chelsea Bernard (David) and Natalie Haniford (Steven).

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Robert E. Fortenberry, Jr. to Ochsner Pediatric Cardiology or to the Ochsner Cancer Center.
