He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie Istre and Nola Stutes Istre; his wife Shirley Dressel Istre; his daughter Edna Marie Istre; and his siblings, Ernest Istre, Widley Istre, Earlene Navarre, Horace Istre and Clairan Istre.

He is survived by: his children, John Alleman (Cheryl), Selena Leger (Randy), Eric Istre (Brenda), Shelia Smith (Bill) and Julius "Joe" Istre, Jr.; and his siblings, Helen Pepper and Murphy Istre. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren.
