He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Griffin and Julie Coates Mathis; his stepfather Leonard Montagne; and his daughter Kristen Mathis Stephens. He is survived by: his wife Ellen Hicks Mathis; his children, James Landon Mathis (Leny), Kimberly Anne Mathis, Christopher Scott Godfrey (Aline) and Michael Patrick Godfrey; his grandchildren, Landon Cody Mathis (Miranda), Hanna Mathis Richard (Jacob), Molly Elizabeth Anderson, Hale Gabriel Castro, Garrett Lambre Mathis, Andrew Scott Godfrey, Gabrielle Virginia Godfrey, Kaylyn Grace Stephens and Konner Graham Stephens; his great grandchildren, Killian Lee Mathis, Everleigh Jane Richard and Jona Rose Richard; and his sisters, Sue Mathis Shaw and Janice Mathis Glover.
Visitation was held on Monday, April 7th 2025 from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home (848 Keyser Ave, Natchitoches, LA 71457). A funeral Mass was held on Monday, April 7th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Holy Cross Catholic Church (129 2nd St, Natchitoches, LA 71457).
