John Edward Dunn Sr. Obituary

Mr. John Edward Dunn, Sr., age 87 of Montgomery, Louisiana passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2022.

Born Tuesday, October 30, 1934 in Waverly, Louisiana, he was preceded in death by children, Johnnie Louise and James "Jamie" Dunn; his brothers, Thomas, Andrew, Jimmy and Bud; great-grandson, John Devall.

John Edward Dunn was born on October 30, 1934, in Waverly, Louisiana to Rufus Ira and Ruby Dunn. When he was 21, he enlisted in the United States Army where he was a paratrooper. He was stationed in Germany for two years before being sent to fight in the Korean War. Though he did 4 years in the service, he spoke of being a paratrooper with great pride, telling many great stories about his experiences.

After completing his tour in the army, he worked for R.G. Letourneau where he met and soon after married his wife of 52 years, Eva.

It was then he started out in the construction industry. He developed into a highly skilled combo welder until he formerly retired at age 75.

John was a great outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish as well as raising gardens. He was also an incredible marksman and told many undisputed stories of shooting various game animals from hundreds of yards away even with open sights.

Because of his feisty and fearless attitude, there were many people who feared him. However, his bark was bigger than his bite in that he had a very warm and tender heart.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Chuck LaCroix officiating. Interment will follow in Montgomery Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 52 years, Eva Perez Dunn; children, John Edward Dunn Jr., Karen Dunn , David Perez, Jennifer Dunn, Mitch Miller and Rufus Ira Dunn., Sherry Dunn, and Carolyn; grandchildren, Brooke Gonzales, Levi and Whitney Berry, Levann Dunn, and Ryan and Bryan Perez, while his great grandchildren are Serenity and Brodon Gonzales, Meleah Alexander, Logan Hebert, Casey, Liam and Zaxton Dubios, in addition to Brylee and Kole Berry as well as a host of others.
