He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin Lawrence Kern Sr. and Margaret Cecilia Herkender Kern; and his wife Iris Petitfils Kern. He is survived by: his children, Lawrence "Larry" Kern (Judy) and Karen Kern Hermann; and his grandchildren, Shaun, Christopher Kern (Holly), Ashley Elizabeth Kern (Kit), Hilmer Paul Hermann III (Crystal) and Andrew Thomas Hermann (Allison). He is also survived by 12 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 22nd 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Memories Funeral Home (4900 Airline Dr, Metairie, LA 70001). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 22nd 2025 at 12:30 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that all donations be made in memory of Melvin to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
