He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Sterling and Ella Watts of New Orleans, LA; his wife Juanita Evans Sterling; his sister Marion Sterling Bijou; and his children, Mario A. Sterling and Natasha L. Sterling.
He is survived by: his children, Merlin Joseph Sterling Jr., Todd M. Sterling and Lisa M. Keller. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a host of relatives.
