She is survived by: her sisters, Toni Remo and Janet; her cousin Lana Britton-Thomas (Patricia Ann Alexis Ardoin); her children, Shaun Bailey, Leslie Bailey Peterson and Joseph Otkins; her son-in-law Terrell Peterson Sr.; and her grandchildren, Kayce, Syndi Webster, Jesse Green, Sydni and Terrell Peterson Jr.. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, family, and friends.
Following her schooling, Joan pursued a career in the medical field, making substantial contributions to the health and well-being of many people.
