It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Ruth Louise Smothers of Lafayette, Louisiana, who passed away on January 9, 2025, at the age of 77, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Lillian Malveaux Smothers and Joseph Smothers; and her siblings, Savannah Smothers, Michael Smothers, Mary Ann Smothers McPhaul and Paul David Smothers.
She is survived by: her aunt Azelia Malveaux (late Gradney Malveaux); her sister-in-law Pamela Lawrence Smothers (late Paul David); her nieces and nephews, Tumeakia Smothers, Victoria McPhaul (Christopher), Nicholas McPhaul (Patti) and Trenton Smothers; and her cousin Ester Ardoin. She is also survived by relatives and dear friends.
A graveside service was held on Saturday, January 18th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the Calvary Cemetery (355 Teurlings Dr, Lafayette, LA 70501). A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 15th 2025 at 9:00 AM at the St. Paul Catholic Church (326 S Washington St, Lafayette, LA 70501).
She served on the Scientific Advisory Council of the National Kidney Foundation of Southern California and held leadership positions with the Dialysis Foundation of Southern Arizona.
