He was predeceased by: his mother Rose Miller Ray; his uncle Robert Miller; and his godmother Elnora Hollier. He is survived by: his wife Shirley Johnston of Lafayette; and his children, Richard Steve Johnston, Jr. (Dawn) of Dawsonville, GA, Patricia Johnston of New Albany, IN, Sharon Jackson (Bryan) of Broussard, LA, Vickie Stevens (Seth) of Erie, CO and Donald Johnston (Janet) of Cincinnati, OH. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Thursday, November 21st 2024 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Walters Funeral Home (2424 N University Ave, Lafayette, LA 70507). A funeral service was held on Thursday, November 21st 2024 from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Thursday, November 21st 2024 from 3:00 PM to 3:15 PM at the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens (2300 N University Ave, Lafayette, LA 70507).
