He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Willie Garrett and Annie Garrett (Thacker); his spouse Ruby McCain; his daughters, Ann DeViney and Marilyn McGreal; his grandchildren, Robert Garrett DeViney (Allison) and Leslie DeViney Prejean (Lane); his great grandchildren, Noah, Tess Prejean and Chevis DeViney; and his siblings, Kirksy Garrett and Lajuana Ryan.
In 1940 Melton married Ruby McCain and lovingly cared for her through her years with Alzheimer's until her death in July 2005.
