He was predeceased by: his mother Florence Valls; his stepfather William Valls (Bill); and his son Michael Richard Caffery (Mike). He is survived by: his wife Constance Caffery (Connie); his brother Woodard Valls (Woody); his children, Rella Baucum (Kenny), John Caffery (Isabelle) and Debra Caffery (Debi); and his grandchildren, Daniel, Sarah, John Jr., James, Maximilien (Max) and Tristan. He is also survived by other loving family members and friends.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Covenant House of New Orleans.
