He was predeceased by: his wife Tommie Burns; and his son William Todd Burns. He is survived by: his children, James "Rusty" Burns (Bonnie) and Susan Burns Blair (Keith); his grandchildren, Crystal, Danielle, Amanda and Cole; and his great grandchildren, Brooklyn and Maddox.
