She was predeceased by: her parents, Bessie Bourgeois, and Albert Bourgeois, Sr.; her husband Joseph Jay Nelson; her son Duane Nelson; and her sisters, Terese Bourgeois (Johnny Bourgeois), Lorraine Griffin (Howard Bourgeois), Marie Verdun, Shirley Walker (Thomas Bourgeois) and Shelby Bourgeois.
She is survived by: her sons, Troy Elaine Nelson of Jeanerette, Keith Nelson (Heidi) of Abbeville, Alex Nelson (Renita) of Verdunville and Sean Nelson (Michelle) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; her brother Merlin Bourgeois of Verdunville, Louisiana; and her grandchildren, Monique Thomas, Gino Nelson, Jermey Nelson, Keith J. Nelson, Alexis Nelson, Joshua Nelson and Brooklyn Nelson. She is also survived by three great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
