He was predeceased by: his wife Elise Jefferson James; his son Clifford Lee James; his parents, Allen Sr. and Rosie Galmore James; and his siblings, Allen Jr., Clifford James, Bessie J. Lewis, Ora James and Ophelia James.

He is survived by: his daughters, Troy James (Deirdre), Ray Noble James Sr. and Elliott James (Ann); and his grandchildren, Marilyn Harding and Ewilda James. He is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
