He was predeceased by: his parents, Jessie Matthews and Ora Calloway Matthews; and his siblings, Leroy Short, Bernard Calloway, Markcus, Wilbert, Hosea, Hayward, Mack O. Matthews, Yvonne Boykin, Emeline Short, Albertha Allen, Virginia Johnson and Gustavia Griffin.
He is survived by: his wife Rose Sandolph Matthews; his children, Gregory, Cody Matthews (Dindi), Tyanesha M. Garrison (James), Tamara, Trameka Matthews, April and Love Victorian; and his siblings, Robert Matthews and Emelda Henry. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
Per CDC requirement/ local regulations everyone is required to wear face masks in building at all times.
