She was predeceased by: her husband Charles Carter, III; her sons, Wendell, Sr. and Bernard Carter, Sr.; her grandchildren, Jarrett Lee, Amber Austin and Jalai Hilaire; her parents, Earl, Sr. Hartman and Beatrice LaGarde Hartman; her siblings, Earl, Jr., Ernest, Kenneth Hartman, Sr. and Paulette H. Neville; and her grandparents, James Hartman, Aletha Melton Smith, Taylor and Elizabeth LaGarde.
She is survived by: her children, Charles, IV, Gregory, Torrey Carter and Jearnee Carter-McGuin (Stephen); her siblings, James Hartman (Georgette), Laverne Short, Aletha Coleman, Elizabeth and Loretta Hartman; and also Graylin Hartman (Linda). She is also survived by 26 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren.
