He was predeceased by: his former wife Betty Lou Freeman Hale; his stepson Joseph Guess; and his great grandchild Cameron Nicole Bottlebergh. He is survived by: his wife Betty Jo Stahl Hale of Hosston, LA; his stepchildren, Kellie Morris (Jim) of Belcher, LA, Kacey Guess of Vivian, LA, Kevin Guess of Tennessee, Phillip Guess of Oil City, LA and Marilynn Beck (George) of Shreveport, LA; his son Gene Hale of Oklahoma; his granddaughters, Kourtney Tyson (Sam) and Krispen Tirpitz; and his great grandchild Samuel James.
