He was predeceased by: his parents, Chester Merchant and Exie Gertrude Merchant; and his brothers, Clayton Merchant and Calton Merchant. He is survived by: his wife Deborah Lynn Merchant of Hineston; his sons, James Merchant (Michelle) of Hineston, John Merchant (Christal) of Forest Hill, Stephen Merchant (Katy) of Hineston and Matthew Merchant of Hineston; and his sisters, Dorothy Liessmann of Shreveport, Doris Merchant of Hineston, Reba Hester and Melba Fuglaar (Larry) of Cotile. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, March 12th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Thursday, March 13th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Hineston Tabernacle (7431 LA-112, Elmer, LA 71424). A funeral service was held on Thursday, March 13th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
