He is survived by: his wife Miss Peggy Jo Chandler; his children, William Christopher Carter-Hamel (Brigitte Carter-Hamel), John Kendall Hamel (Susan Knotts), Stephen Craig Hamel (Leslie Breedlove), Lori Hamel Piersall (Robert Piersall) and Darien Keith Hamel; his grandsons, Shawn Michael Hamel and Craig James; and his siblings, Hazel (John Prine), Pat (Smith), Priscilla Delosh and Virgil Vern. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren as well as eight nieces and nephews on the West Coast and two nephews and one niece.
