He was predeceased by: his parents, Esmee E. Rills Sr. and Justine "Tina" Joseph Rills. He is survived by: his former wife Glenda Rills; his children, Esmee D. Rills (Tara Rills) and Holly Rills (Robert Blottenberger); and his grandchildren, Corey Rills and Erica Picou.

“Esmee was a really nice guy. After college, he worked for the same company until his retirement- no small feat in today's world. He loved to hunt, camp, crab and shrimp and would often invite people who had no experience in these things to come along- one of them being me. As well as the above activities, he taught me how to shoot a gun and was a stickler about gun safety. He was always patient, complimentary when I did something correctly- and no question was too stupid. He was a good teacher.”
