He was predeceased by: his former wife Annelise Kryger Overton; his parents, Carroll Davis Overton M. D. and Mary Lewis Overton; and his siblings, Morris Blackwell Overton (Marianne) and Helen Overton Brittan (John).

He is survived by: his wife Janelle Bouis Overton; his children, Miriam C. Overton (Steve Covington), Chloe Overton Butler (Mark), John J. Overton (Wendy) of Henry, D. L and Benjamin J. Blackwell; his grandchildren, Isaac DeVlugt (Selina), Rachel Maebe (Lennart), Hannah Riddle, Grant Riddle (Mya), Elise Overton, Jake Overton, Elliana Overton, Lana Grace Overton, Annabeth Overton, Amelia Overton, Holton Hancock and Haigan Hancock; and his great grandchildren, Jules, James, Wesley, Leo, Delton and Layla.
