He was predeceased by: his parents, George Robert Scherer II and Carolyn Dendinger Scherer; his sister Peggy; his brother-in-law Sammy Gennardo; and his brother George Scherer III.

He is survived by: his wife Jeanine Genre Scherer; his children, Morgan Scherer Seale (Grady Seale) and David "Stephen" Scherer Jr.; and his daughter-in-law Liz Lynn Scherer. He is also survived by numerous Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.
