He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel Burgdahl and Anna Mae Ritter Burgdahl. He is survived by: his wife Kathleen Mattingly Burgdahl; his son Barrett Burgdahl (Lauren Dickson); his stepdaughter Colleen Tifft (Billy); his grandchildren, Rowan and Rori; his sister Joyce Comment (Richard Sr.); and his close friend Steven Graves. He is also survived by extended family and friends.
